What is the National Council for Construction all about?
The National Council for Construction (NCC) is a statutory body governed by the National Council for Construction Act No. 10 of 2020 under the Laws of Zambia. Under this Law, NCC is charged with the responsibility of providing for the promotion, development, training and regulation of the Construction Industry in Zambia.
What type of Businesses are eligible to register with the National Council for Construction - NCC?
Any type of business is eligible to register with the National Council for Construction provided that, the business is registered with PACRA as a construction related business. Secondly, the business must have the capacity to deliver quality construction works and materials to both Government and the private sector. The following are types of companies that are eligible to register with NCC (companies can be locally registered or foreign):
- Businesses that are in the construction of various types of buildings such as residential, commercial and industrial buildings – general building
- Businesses that are in the civil engineering and other related works
- Businesses that are in the construction of roads and other related earth works
- Businesses that in mining related construction works
- Businesses that are in the construction works that involve general electrical and telecommunications
- Businesses that are in the supply of construction & mining related materials
- Businesses that are in the manufacturing of construction & mining related materials

What type of contractors does NCC register in the construction industry?

Grade 1 Contractors
These are contractors whose tender value is up to a maximum of K150 million depending on the categories they have registered for.
- Normal registration costs a total of K17, 500 and
- Express registration costs a total of K34, 550.
Grade 2 Contractors
These are contractors whose tender value is also up to a maximum of K150 million depending on the categories they have registered for.

- Express registration costs a total of K25, 875.
Grade 3 Contractors
These are contractors whose tender value is up to a maximum of K40 million depending on the categories they have registered for. This implies that, Grade 3 contractors cannot bid for tenders whose value is beyond K40m.
- Normal registration costs a total of K8, 750 and
- Express registration costs a total of K17, 275.
Grade 4 Contractors
These are contractors whose tender value is up to a maximum of K20 million depending on the categories they have registered for. This implies that, Grade 4 contractors cannot bid for tenders whose value is beyond K20m.

- Express registration costs a total of K4, 285.
Grade 5 Contractors
These are contractors whose tender value is up to a maximum of K13 million depending on the categories they have registered for. This implies that, Grade 5 contractors cannot bid for tenders whose value is beyond K13m.
- Normal registration costs a total of K1, 1150 and
- Express registration costs a total of K2, 190.
Grade 6 Contractors
These are contractors whose tender value is up to a maximum of K1.6 million depending on the categories they have registered for. This implies that, Grade 6 contractors cannot bid for tenders whose value is beyond K1.6m.

- Express registration costs a total of K1445.
